2018 Shelby Raptor – Extreme, Excessive, Desirable

By -

Built for the most extreme enthusiasts, the new Shelby Raptor is limited to a total production of only 500 trucks.

There are a few things in life that although unnecessary, they’re convenient and desirable. For example, power-folding running boards, and heated steering wheels. Some call them fancy, we call them awesome. An even better example of this is the larger-than-life 2018 Shelby Raptor.

Fresh of the unveiling ceremony, this limited production truck is the new badass of the Raptor family. Although not modified by the in-house Ford Performance department, this amped-up Baja racer still rocks a factory warranty and can be serviced at traditional Ford dealerships.

Enough of the boring stuff,  you’re probably dying to know what’s under the hood of this bad boy. You won’t be disappointed! Shelby has managed to squeeze more than 75 additional horsepower from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, though they’ve failed to disclose “how.” Our gut tells us they’ve tweaked the ECU, but the quoted 610 lb. ft. of torque leads us to believe other tuning wizardry has been performed.

“While the Raptor is an amazing truck right from Ford, we reimagined it for those who asked Shelby for an even more extreme version,” said Gary Patterson, Shelby American President. “The Shelby Raptor is harder edged, with more grunt and handling capability. We added adjustable shocks so the driver can even tailor their ride. This truck was designed and tested for those who seek maximum adventure both on and off the road.”

The new 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with General Motors, and also found in the Camaro ZL1 remains in place. If anything, it can be reprogrammed to take a whole lot more abuse than the stock Raptor can throw at it.

If this package Shelby has built appeals to you, you should hurry up and place a sizable deposit with the legendary performance builder. At the tune of $117,460, it costs a whopping $49,295 more than a stock SuperCrew Raptor. The good news (sort of) is that, if you already have a Raptor you can send it to Shelby and they will modify it for exactly the same price difference.
