2018 Ford F-150: Pre-Collition Assist & Pedestrian Detection Video

By -

This video of the 2018 F-150’s latest safety technology is the visual representation of the popular saying: Don’t try this at home.

Often we hear older folks talk about how heavier, early generation, steel-built trucks are stronger and safer than their modern counterparts. While some of those characteristics could in some way or another relate to strength and safety, the truth is that such claim is far from accurate. Modern day F-150 pickups are light years ahead in terms of safety than previous generations.
The combination of active and passive safety systems make the current-generation F-150 the safest truck on the market according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but also the smartest.
F-150 Safety

One of the newest high-tech safety systems found in the 2018 F-150 is the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection system. As you can see in this video by theĀ Ford Motor Company, the truck utilizes radar and camera technology to help drivers avoid or mitigate collisions with vehicles and pedestrians.

Despite this being very complex technology, it’s not hard to understand the important role it plays. Even so, the video does a great job at simplifying the concept and showing what it’s designed to accomplish. As usual, these are segment first and class exclusive technologies that improve productivity, efficiency and driver confidence.

This safety system is optional in most trims of F-150, with the exception of Platinum and Limited, where it’s added to the lengthy list of standard features. It’s also worth noting that Pre-Collision Assist requires the Adaptive Cruise Control system, as they both of their utilize the same hardware and software to perform their magic.

Interesting, huh?
