2018 Ford Expedition Exterior Design: Yay or Nay?
Do You Like the Explorer-like Exterior Design of the 2018 Ford Expedition? Or Would You have Preferred a More F-150-like Look?
The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition is currently on display at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, where it made its grand debut last week. The new Expedition has a revamped 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, the new 10-speed automatic transmission, an aluminum body and a sleek new exterior design that is most alike the Explorer in terms of inner-brand comparisons.
The exterior styling of the 2018 Ford Expedition is the subject of our “Question of the Week.” We want to know what you think about the look of this new, full sized SUV.

The 2018 Expedition has a curvier front end, with the headlights and grille flowing together to create one large “piece” that dominates the front end. The new Expedition also has a hood with two raised sections flanking a lowered center portion and C-shaped fog light housings mounted on the corners of the front fascia, all of which is similar in its basic design to the newest Ford Explorer.
Now, it makes good sense for the 2018 Expedition to borrow some styling from the popular Explorer, as the Expedition is the step-up vehicle from the Explorer. But unlike the Explorer, the bigger Expedition is body-on-frame. Because of that construction, some buyers would prefer that the Expedition look more like an F-150 or the rest of the F Series than it does the Explorer, since the Expedition is somewhat truck-based. Then again, SUV buyers who want a large vehicle that looks like the F-150 might be more likely to lean towards the SUV styling, so it is easy to see both sides of the discussion.
