2017 F-150 EcoBoost Slays the Strip: Truckin’ Fast Wednesday

By -

A stock 2017 F-150 performs so well on the drag strip, it would humiliate the now defunct Ford SVT Lightning!

Today’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video, which was posted by Youtuber Maurice Cooper, features a 2017 Ford F-150 Sport with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, and the new 10-speed automatic transmission. In case you’re not familiar with the current F-150 trims, the new “Sport” trim isn’t a performance model in any way – it’s simply an extended cab with a few decals, blacked-out trim, etc. Funny enough, it covers the quarter-mile as quickly as the old supercharged SVT Lightning!

When the Lightning was offered it was the ultimate F-Series high-performance model. With a supercharged 5.4L V8 delivering 360-380hp (depending on the model year) it the quickest stock Ford half-ton ever with a quarter-mile time of around 13.7 seconds.

The 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost packs 375 horsepower, making it more powerful than the SVT Lightning, but considerably heavier than the Lightning. Fortunately, the new 10-speed automatic transmission has aggressive gearing, helping the turbocharged V6 propel the rear-wheel-drive truck down the strip in just 13.75 seconds at 99 mph!

In short, a “run of the mill” Ford SuperCrew can run the quarter-mile just as fast as the Lightning, while also being the most fuel-efficient truck in the segment, and while being able to tow 12,000 pounds.

How’s that?
