2016 Ford F-150 is IIHS Top Safety Pick and Safest Half-Ton on Sale

By -

With more and more people using their pickup trucks as everyday vehicles, automakers have to not only design tough trucks for work, but safe trucks for their families. When it comes to the 2016 model year F-150, Ford engineered not only a tough truck, but a safe truck. Today, the F-150 has been given the honor of earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick award. They are the only half-ton truck on sale to earn that award.

Last year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) noticed some differences in the cab configurations of the F-150 that affected their crash test results. The IIHS decided for 2016 to test all cab configurations of all of the half-ton pickup trucks on sale. For 2016, many of the manufacturers made changes to their trucks to improve their crash test performance in the company’s small overlap test.

The results are staggering. The SuperCab joins the ’15 SuperCrew in earning a good rating on the small overlap test, and a good rating across the board. If you add in the optional emergency braking features, the truck earns the Top Safety Pick award.

The rest of the truck results are shown below;

It should be noted that the new F-150 also has a 5 star overall crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and is the only half-ton pickup truck on sale that can claim that.

If you’re in the market for a new pickup truck, you might want to stick with the brand you already know and love. For 2016, the safest out there is the Ford F-150.
