2000 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning: A Close-Up Look

By -

Supercharged F-150 SVT Lightning is still Ford’s coolest street truck ever.

We frequently feature the second generation Ford F-150 SVT Lightning doing burnouts, drag racing or drifting, but those videos are all about the action. This week’s “Truckin’ Fast Wednesday” video takes a close-up look at the factory-supercharged half-ton pickup, showcasing the sleek lines and the powerful V8 that made the last Lightning so damn cool.

This video comes to us from the YouTube channel of Izai Sanchez and it features a 2000 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning that is owned by an unnamed friend. We don’t know how this friend is, but he has a sharp, stock-looking SVT pickup that has become a rarity today.

SVT Lightning

The Ford F-150 has been offered with the SVT Lightning package twice; once from 1993 through 1995 and again from 1999 through 2003. The early version was powered by a naturally aspirated 5.8-liter V8 that delivered 240 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque, making for a fun sport truck, but the real Lightning struck when the second generation of the package arrived for 1999.

The second generation F-150 Lightning was powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that delivered 360-380 horsepower (depending on the model year) and 450 lb-ft of torque. Those figures made the Lightning one of the quickest, fastest and most powerful trucks to date. By today’s standards those numbers are mind-blowing, but these SVT pickups are still well-respected in the performance community.

The Black SVT

In the video above, we get a look at this black 2000 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning from just about every exterior angle and under the hood. There are no details on this truck, but it appears to be stock and relatively clean for its age, making this the kind of truck that we all hope to find for sale. This truck is clean enough to cruise and enjoy, while having all of the potential of the supercharged pickup.

Much of the video has music playing over it, but a short segment in the middle lets us hear the blown V8 whine while being revved and while scooting down the street. There are also some great exhaust clips, bracketed by the moving shots with the musical accompaniment.

Crank up your speakers and enjoy!
