1972 F-250

Stunning Tampico Yellow over Wimbledon White F-250 Sport Custom 4×4 represents everything that was right with ‘70s pickup trucks.

A brand new 2021 F-250 is a terrific truck. The newest models are more efficient, powerful and comfortable than the classics. However, they don’t make you drool on your keyboard like the classics do. The truck pictured here is not just drool worthy, it is a rare beast as well. And it is up for grabs right now on Bring a Trailer. The online auction site has dazzled us in the past with some amazing rides, but this one rivals them all. It is a 1972 Ford F-250 Sport Custom 4×4. It could be the poster child for trucks from the ‘70s. This example is only one of eleven such trucks with this color scheme. Wimbledon White and Tampico Yellow on the outside and a Parchment vinyl interior.

We should all look this good as we approach 50 years on this earth. The truck benefitted from a fresh repaint but other than that there is no mention of any major restoration work. Helping to further setoff the exterior look is the white-painted eight-lug 16-inch steel wheels. The wheels wear Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT tires. The outside of the truck looks straight and clean. The chrome looks great and you can easily imagine this truck rolling off the showroom floor looking just like this.

Under the hood you will find the 360ci V8 equipped with a single carburetor. It may not be one of the greatest of the Ford V8 engines, but it is perfectly serviceable. The odometer shows 95K miles, but it is unclear if that is an accurate count. The engine is hooked up to an honest to goodness, four-speed manual transmission. There is a two-speed transfer case, and a 4.10:1 Dana 60 rear axle.

The deluxe Marti report shows that this 1972 F-250 was originally built on July 27, 1972. The original owner took delivery that September from Gentry Ford Sales in Oregon. A lot of big trees out in Oregon. Back in those days most people bought trucks has work vehicles and not daily drivers. So, it is likely that this truck pulled some duty out in the forests of Oregon. Although today this truck looks too damn nice to do much but take it to local shows. However, if you wanted to use it for a bit of work we are sure it could still get the job done.

Dashboard

This is a no-nonsense truck that reminds you what trucks used to be. Awesome ‘70s color scheme splashed over a no-frills working truck. Metal keys, steel wheels, manual transmission, manually locking hubs, analog gauges, bench seat, and roll up windows. Looking at the modern truck lineup it is hard to believe that this is what trucks were at one time.
