Just today I noticed loud shreaking/squealing/screeching noise whenever I
was in motion (whether it was in N or D). I have an 88 bii EB 4x4 auto. My
brakes had been squealing from time to time for the past few months -- this
sounds much worse and the brakes are not applied! The sound continues when
I apply the brakes however. My initial thought was maybe the brakes were
still in contact with the wheels at all time, thus creating the sound. It's
deafening, a very high pitched squeal. The sound has no correspondence with
the engine (thank god).

Any ideas?

I forgot to mention:
When I step on my brakes, every third or forth time, I hearing a
clunking/clicking sound underneath the car. What is this and is it related?
