Subject: '59 F100 - to buy or not to buy?

Hi!
I just joined this list, and I'm thinking about buying a '59 F100. Since
my experience with cars is limited to a '76 GMC and a Volvo, I would like
to get some expert advice regarding Fords, specifically '59 F100's. The
truck I am interested in is a V8 292 with a three speed, column shift. It
doesn't have power steering or brakes, but I drove it a little, and it
runs *very* well. It has been parked for the past fifteen years, because
the previous owner was going to restore it, but lost interest. It seems to
be completely stock, and I'd like to know if there's anything specific to
this kind of truck that I should know. Also, I'd like to know how
easy it is to get parts for this kind of truck: stuff like brake shoes,
U.J.s, oil filters, and other important things that will need to be
replaced.

Subject: Headlight switch

I think you might consider doing what I once did, which is just buying a
new h/lt switch for a newer era Ford fm an auto parts store, getting
the plug for the top fm a junk yard, splicing your old wires into the
plug, and all is well.

I assume it will fit in the same hole. Why assume that? Because the
'78 Ford light/switch I had screwed right into my '55 panel dash, and
yes I used the '55 chrome dash grommet (same thread pattern), and then
all I did was grind the '55 handle rod (square) into the triangular
shape of the newer switch, and I got to use this original piece too!

Hi Nick. I can't help you with too much stuff as I'm learning too, but I
have a '58 F100 and I've had no problem finding parts for it. Most of the
local parts places only have listings back to 1960, but I've found that
several 1960 parts interchange with my truck, so I'd say yours will be the
same. For parts I've needed that the local shops can't find, there's lots
of mail order places who can get you any Ford truck part you want. I
won't list all I've found here, but some of the ones I've had good
experiences with are Obsolete Ford Parts, Sacramento Vintage Ford, and
John's F-Fun Hundreds. You can find their ads in Hemmings or any
truck/street rod magazine. I hope this helps you out.

I've got the two list of addresses put together but unfortunately
I lost all the emails sent to me about the small truck list.
I meant to reply to several of the emails but I can't, sorry.

Please email me directly (kpaynemindspring.com) with the
following as the subject: small truck list
only if you wish to be removed from a list after you're on the
small truck list or if I did not put you down in the subscriber
list(s) correctly. I no longer have the removal list so this
is needed from you.

Following is the list of everyone for the small truck lists...
This new list had better response than any new list in the past
so I guess it was long over due. Formal announcement goes out
to the Newsgroups on Monday when the list is activated. Full
directions will go out as the first post to the list and a
digest will immediately go out after that post.

Several people have asked about having a list which focuses
on 1997+ F150/1998+ F250-350 trucks. Our survey shows we
have over 100 members with one of these trucks. This is
more than enough support for this list. Voting link is on
the web site, http://www.ford-trucks.com, near the bottom of
the page. Your opinion counts but if you need to vent an
opinion decide whether it needs to be on the lists for
everyone to see or sent to me personally
(kpaynemindspring.com).

All comments sent to me are welcome whether they are positive
or negative. I will respond personally to each comment,
unless you ask me not to.

One last item... I'm going to format the on line survey into
human readable results and put them on the web site monthly.
