I'm a little confused. In 55 the only engine choices were:

223- 6cyl
239- 8
256- 8
279- 8
317- 8

According to the service manual all engines had a choice of two

standard- opens 152-157 and fully open 177
High-Temp opens 167-172 and fully open 192

It sounds like the problem is a bad sender.

I found an interesting web site today. The site has some interesting books, service and owners manuals for Ford Vehicles. IMHO their prices are good to.

The URL is

Subject: chopped glass

My next modification on my 56 F-100 project is a 3'' chop top, however I am
undecided about having the front windsheild cut before, or after lowering the
Or perhaps somebody can tell me if there is a glass shop that sells a pre-cut
chopped glass for my 56.

Joe, i did this on a 57 chevy car 4 years ago. as far as i know (and we have
a lot of custom shops in cal. ) no one makes precut glass. i had a shop with
a great rep cut the glass and there deal was i supply the windshield, they
would cut it for $175, and if it broke, i brought them anaother one. that's
right, no guarentees. since 57 chevy windshields are as expensive and hard
to find as yur 56, this would be a consideration. there is also a process
that some shops use where the glass is gorund down with a big belt sander on
a stand a little at a time. i did not care for this as it was by the hour
with the same guarentee-none. as it turned out i got the glass back in one
piece the first time. the frame was reconstructed but it cracked on
installation any way. it was only a 4 inch crack strait up from the center
but you know how that goes. sold the whole car as a project , crack and all.
this is what i know.

i still like that chopped look though. my wife doesn't, see why my top is
