I believe all trucks that old were 6volt POSITIVE ground. The switch you
asked about is to turn off the instrument lights. (at least that's what
it does on my '49 F-3.) Why anyone would want to is still beyond me.

Have acquired a 1948 F7 that has not "run" in 20+ years.
Flathead has "Lincoln" on the heads.
Questions:

6 or 12 Volt
mechanical or electric fuel pump-if mechanical where was it mounted
purpose of switch mounted under dash directly under start button

Subject: ADMIN: Out of order digests.

Every list had either a duplicate digest number or an out of
order digest number. The information is not duplicated and
each digest is unique. This occurred due to a configuration
error on my part. This has been corrected. We now return
you to our regularly scheduled program.

Subject: 7.5 Volts and Holding

The ol' '54 is ready to hit the road, except I have one concern: While a
volt-ohm meter hooked up to the "Bat" (Well, at least I THINK that's where
I hooked it up!) terminal and a ground is telling me the generator is
cranking out 7.5 regulated volts, when I turn on the headlights, the charge
indicator on the dash drops halfway into the "Discharge" side. The vom
insists it's getting 7.5 volts.
When I start the truck, the needle stops at about the halfway mark and
stays there, regardless of rpms. Of course, this means that the needle
stays in the discharge zone when the lights are on. I'm used to the charge
moving up a little before stopping when the revs increase, or at least
that's what my VW and my Non-Ford sedan did. I'm confused!! An old
mechanic I know suggests a bad charge indicator. Any other ideas?
