I have this same engine in my 1980 F-150. It has about 60 k miles on a
rebuilt engine. I run 10W40 because I do not like how low the oil pressure
gets when the engine is very hot and the A/C is on. With your 177 k miles,
I think I'd start with 10W40 and see what it does, then maybe go to 20W50.
You will not have hard starting problems with the 20W50 in Florida, I
suspect, unless you are in the far north near Georgia.

I do not use the additives. I do not think you need them with today's
modern oils. They already have plenty of additives.

hey randy and mike thanks for the reply.it must be condensation. i changed the
oil and no water in it.the truck was laid up for a while.i added some
additives to give it some life. its a 300 6cyl with 177k on it. but it ddoes
not seem to run well with 10w30 oil. should i use 10w40 or thicker? its only a
6 cyl. but i live in florida and its real hot here.do you recommend some oil
additive like duralube or slick 50?

I've had that happen to a couple of cars (old european brands...).

It is always caused by a bad ground between the rear lights (/housing)
to chassis. This can be caused by a crimped wire, rust at the attachment
screws or simply loose wiring. Make sure all your connections are
