Pictures to illustrate and to gather knowledge about Ford Explorer Special Pickups, their features, special paints, and pinstripe schemes from 1968 to 1986. This album is for achedemic research which is covered under the Fair Use, under U.S. copyright.
1968 marks the begining of the Explorer special but it wasn't until 1973 When ford put on their first pinstripes. Only the 1973 and 1974 Explorers shared pinstripes, and from 1975 on each year boasted it's different, unique pinstripe until the practice was dropped for the 1985 Explorers. 1986 saw the end of the Explorer Special F-series pickups, and the name wasn't to be seen again until the Explorer SUV came out in the late 80's.
During the years of the Explorer specials of the 60's 70's and early 80's not only did f-series boast the Explorer emblem, but also the Bronco, the Ranchero, and in the early 80's even the little Ranger also. This album only refers to the F-series Explorers though.
The Explorer came in many different "Packages" A, B, C, and Later D. Package A defined it as an Explorer, but for a little Extra you could outfit your Explorer with B, C, or the D package that included power steering tinted glass and air-conditioning to name a few of the options, and less cost than if you were to buy them seperate on a non Explorer model.
Hope this album answers some questions about the Explorer Special Limited Editions.
