Article 00-25-4 is being republished as part of a consolidated 7.3L diagnostic aid booklet and to update the calibration table.

ISSUE:

Some vehicles may exhibit an engine buck, surge, or jerk (also known as hitching/hesitation) while the speed control is active through all engine temperatures. This may be caused by the calibration and strategy of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

ACTION:

Reprogram the PCM. Refer to the following PCM Calibration Information Chart for details.

NOTE:IF THERE IS A BUCK/SURGE CONDITION WHILE NOT USING THE SPEED CONTROL, OR DURING ENGINE WARM-UP, REPROGRAMMING THE PCM WILL NOT CORRECT THE CONDITION.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 – obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.


AUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS

THE FOLLOWING MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE:
Replaced or Reprogrammed Powertrain Control Module (PCM) per TSB 03-21-40.
THESE MODIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN APPROVED, AS APPROPRIATE, BY EPA AND CARB.
