Condensate may leak onto the passenger floor on some vehicles. This may be caused by the evaporator core not sealing properly and allowing air to bypass the core and carry condensate to the heater plenum.
Reseal the evaporator core. Sealing the core should reduce the possibility of air flow around the core. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
- Verify concern.
- Check evaporator drain for proper flow and clear any obstructions.
- Remove evaporator core as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Adjust evaporator core seal position to seal any gaps that will allow air flow past any section of the core other than the fin area. Refer to Figures 1-5, as a guide. On Explorer/Mountaineer and Ranger vehicles, replace the -19D578- evaporator seal with a new Evaporator Seal (XL2Z-19A672-AA) (Figure 5) to provide necessary sealing.
