  • CALIBRATION – RECALIBRATION OF POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULES (PCMS) AFTER REPLACEMENT – SERVICE TIP – ALTERNATE FUEL VEHICLES ONLY

ISSUE:

Some bi-fuel vehicles may require Powertrain Control Module (PCM) replacement during service and may not run on CNG or LPG. The reason may be that the bi-fuel calibration was not flashed into the PCM.

ACTION:

If the PCM is replaced for any reason on these vehicles, the PCM must be reprogrammed to the bi-fuel calibration. The PCM that is ordered is programmed for base gasoline vehicle operation only. The bi-fuel calibrations may be accessed through the FORDSTAR network and on the regular WDS/NGS-SBTS system CD. The new PCM must be reprogrammed with the correct bi-fuel calibration using the reprogramming service procedure. Failure to reprogram the PCM to a bi-fuel calibration will make bi-fuel operation impossible. Retest vehicle operation, road test for drive concerns in both bi-fuel and gasoline modes, and test for AFCM and Malfunction Indicator (MIL) codes.
