Some 2013 F-150 4X2 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L engine and built on or before 12/13/2012 may exhibit a late 5-6 upshift of 107-120 K/mh (67-75 MPH).
Follow the Service Procedure to correct the concern.
- Check the vehicle build date. Is the vehicle build date on or before 12/13/2012?
- Yes – vehicle build date is on or before 12/13/2012, proceed to Step 2.
- No – vehicle build date is after 12/13/2012, this article does not apply. Follow normal Workshop Manual diagnostic procedures.
- Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 82.03 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2012.11 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
NOTE: PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
