ISSUE:

The fuel gauge may work erratically and/or the vehicle may not start. This may be caused by the fuel tank sending unit wiring connector becoming loose and/or corroding. This looseness and/or corrosion may be caused by the lack of a locking mechanism on the connector.

ACTION:

Install a new fuel tank sending unit pigtail connector to the existing wire harness. The new pigtail will provide improved sealing and a positive locking mechanism to reduce the possibility of looseness or corrosion. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the fuel tank following the procedure outlined in the appropriate Service Manual, Section 10-01A.

  4. Cut the connector off of the vehicle’s wiring harness about 152mm (6″) from the old connector.
