Article 98-17-16 is being republished in its entirety as part of a consolidated 7.3L diagnostic aid booklet.

ISSUE:

A “cackling” noise with the engine warm and slightly above idle, and/or a “buzzing” noise from the fuel pressure regulator with Key On Engine Off (KOEO) during fuel pump cycling, may occur on some vehicles. These may be caused by low fuel pressure due to the fuel pressure regulator seal (O-ring) splitting.

ACTION:

Replace the fuel pressure regulator valve with F81Z-9B249-BB. Refer to the 1998 Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) 7.3L DIT Supplement Service Manual, Page 4B-46, for service procedure details.
