Some vehicles may exhibit various driveability conditions listed below:
- Rough/Rolling Idle When The Engine Is Warm
- Rough/Rolling Idle And White Smoke After Hot Restart
- Lacks Power After Initial Start-Up
- Cold Idle Kicker Performance At Warm Ambient Temps
- U0306 Codes After Reprogramming
- P2263 Code Set During Extended Idle
- False P0196 Codes
This updated service calibration addresses a number of vehicle driveability conditions. When servicing 2003-2004 Super Duty and Excursion vehicles equipped with 6.0L Power Stroke engine built before 9/29/03 (can be verified by the Injection Control Pressure (ICP) sensor located at the rear of the engine) reprogram the PCM/TCM/FICM modules to the latest calibration level (B27.9) or later. This calibration should only be installed on customer vehicles that exhibit one of the conditions addressed above.
|NOTE:||THIS LATEST CALIBRATION INCLUDES ALL CHANGES RELEASED IN PREVIOUS CALIBRATION UPDATES.|
|NOTE:||INSTALLING THIS CALIBRATION REMOVES PILOT INJECTION CONTROL.|
|NOTE:||PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE UPDATED CALIBRATION, ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS UPGRADE WILL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE ENGINE IDLE AND LOW SPEED PERFORMANCE. IT WILL ALSO SLIGHTLY INCREASE THE ENGINE SOUND LEVEL DURING WARM IDLE, WHICH IS A NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTIC OF DIESEL ENGINES.|
Before reprogramming, verify correct engine oil level and confirm proper operation of the ICP/IPR (refer to PC/ED Manual). Calibration updates are available on WDS software version B27.9 or later, or at www.motorcraft.com.

Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 – obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
