Coolant may leak at the rear oil header on some vehicles. This may be caused by a localized thin section of material on the crankcase at the mounting pad radius.
Increase the amount of material at the section where the coolant leak occurs. The service procedure required can only be accomplished with an on-site visit from Navistar engineers. Refer to the following for details.
The procedure for servicing the rear oil cooler header for concerns of coolant leaks has been developed by Navistar. The procedure can only be accomplished with an on-site visit from Navistar engineers. The service procedure has been validated and verified through extensive durability tests. The repair is 100% effective and should not be considered an interim fix. The repair is a permanent action to resolve the coolant leak concern.
The repair is performed by Navistar representatives, not field service personnel. The procedure involves using a precision fixture to install threaded, sealed, and overlapping stitch pins. The pins must be installed by Navistar representatives using Navistar’s fixture.
Contact Navistar directly via fax to initiate scheduling a factory specialist to your location. Please provide the dealership name, phone number, city, person to contact, and VIN for the subject vehicle. The fax number at Navistar for scheduling is (708) 865-3322.
