  • NGS INFORMATION – NGS TESTER DISPLAYS FALSE HIGH SPARK ADVANCE READINGS – BI-FUEL VEHICLES ONLY – SERVICE TIP
Publication Date: JUNE 19, 2000

FORD:
1996 CONTOUR, ECONOLINE, F-150, F-250

ISSUE:

Some vehicles may exhibit false high spark advance readings when using a New Generation Star (NGS) Tester. On some bi-fuel vehicles, when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is operating with less spark advance than base timing, the NGS Tester will display a very large number.

ACTION:

When the NGS, using the N1-125/N1-124 card/cable (Rotunda 164-R0905/164-R0906 card/cable), displays a spark advance of more than 328 degrees, the technician must subtract 655 from the number displayed to calculate the spark retard value.
