LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2, 1999 - The Arctic Explorer Sport Trac concept takes the "outdoor friendly" character of the production vehicle a step further with customization features for the extreme winter sports enthusiast.

The Arctic Explorer Sport Trac - debuting at the 1999 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show - is equipped to take on the harshest elements to the tallest ski slope or the most treacherous hiking trail.

"Our customers lead demanding lives and expect their vehicles to get them where they need to go," says J Mays, Ford Motor Company vice president of Design. "The versatility and flexibility of the Ford Explorer Sport Trac makes it ideal for personal customization."

The Arctic Explorer Sport Trac features 18-inch, five-spoke Azev Type LS wheels wrapped in H/P 285/60HR all-purpose tires, which allow for additional ground clearance and the ability to take on the most challenging terrain.

The unique custom tubular grille, along with the integrated push bar and brush guard, give the Arctic Explorer Sport Trac a look of strength and determination.

An all-composite cargo area features a hard tonneau cover that can be used to safely and securely store and haul winter sports equipment. A durable, lightweight aluminum tube roof rack coupled with the multi-functional, quick release tie-down cleats, are designed to carry any additional gear.

A step bar is built into the body for increased ground clearance, and integrated running boards feature a rugged texture for increased traction when entering and exiting the vehicle.

The exterior body panels are finished in a Pearl Winter White paint. The bumpers, step bar and exterior and interior detailing are all colored Super Silver.

Arctic Explorer Sport Trac is powered by a 4.0-liter single overhead cam V6 engine with a five- speed automatic transmission, offering 200 horsepower and 247 ft.-lbs. of torque.

The interior features a custom three-spoke steering wheel for a more sporty look and feel, as well as weather-resistant two-tone rubber floor mats that are durable and easy to clean. For those unexpected scrapes and bruises, Arctic Explorer Sport Trac features interior mounted first aid kits.

"This can-do vehicle is designed take you to your winter sanctuary in comfort," says Mays. "It's the perfect expansion of our `Outfitters' showroom of SUVs and our `No Boundaries' promise." ....
