Ford announces vehicle campaign
DEARBORN, Mich., May 4, 1999 - Ford Motor Company is notifying owners of approximately 57,200 1999 model-year Expedition and Navigator 4x4 vehicles equipped with optional 17-inch chrome-finished steel wheels of a voluntary safety recall.
Some of the affected vehicles may have wheels that may not have enough contact area between the wheel and hub which potentially could result in loss of lug nut torque, vibration or separation of a wheel and tire from the vehicle. This concern is related to a wheel manufacturing quality issue.
Dealers will re-torque the wheels and install a label with tightening instructions on each wheel at no expense to owners.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail to have their vehicles serviced.
Customers also may find out if their vehicle is included in the recall by contacting Ford's Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-392-3673 or Internet users can register at the company's OwnerConnection web site (ownerconnection.com).....
