Your Passport to International Excitement
CARLISLE, PA – Jules Verne, a Frenchman, took us Around the World in 80 Days for the first time more than 130 years ago. At the 2011 Import & Kit Nationals, May 20-22 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, Carlisle Events goes global too, only our journey will cover the world within our grounds. Attendees will be able to sample food representative of the countries showcased as well as enjoy a spectacular selection of imports from around the world, positioned on the showfield by country of origin.
With the smell of international food in the air and rows and rows of cars to look at, show goers will be given a special assignment. For the first time ever, each event directory will include a “passport” style insert. The insert, in conjunction with the Around the World in 80 Acres contest, represents a challenge in which a stamp will need to be applied to its corresponding country in the directory. Those who complete the world tour can take their stamped passports to the Goody Bag Garage to claim one of many prizes.
Prizes will be available and awarded at random. The giveaways include gift certificates from local establishments, hats, shirts, a limited edition pin and more. Additionally, one grand prize winner will receive a free weekend for the 2012 Import & Kit Nationals which includes lodging and either a grounds pass or a showfield registration pass for the entire weekend.
“We want to share the world of automobiles with our guests along with additional international flavor,” noted Event Manager Ed Buczeskie. “We want everyone to explore all of the different automotive brands that are represented on our showfield and reward those who fill their passports with incentives from local merchants,” added Buczeskie.
“Every year downtown Carlisle looks forward to welcoming the guests of the Import & Kit Nationals,” noted Glenn White, Executive Director of the Downtown Carlisle Association. “With the support of local businesses, everyone involved continues to make Carlisle a world-class destination.”
As part of the Import & Kit Nationals event, multicultural entertainment will be present, including live bands. Friday will feature Jazz Me Rhythm & Blues along with the River City Sound Society. On Saturday, show goers will enjoy the Fretworks, Pretzel City DixieLand Band and Fast Lane with Dawn Rix while Sunday entertainment includes Katie & the Gray Beards, Leah Burkey and Jazz Me Rhythm & Blues Band.
A truly unique and engaging auto festival, this event welcomes an eclectic mix of over 1,400 vehicles from vintage to modern imports to many varieties of kit cars.
