- Fascetti is a native of southeast Michigan and enjoys playing a wide range of sports, including golf, tennis, squash and basketball

Bob Fascetti, director of Large Gas and Diesel Engine Engineering at Ford Motor Company, likes to play games – golf, tennis, squash, basketball. He also coaches basketball and baseball. "I love a round of golf with three of my buddies," said Fascetti. "You can't beat a Friday night Tigers game at Comerica Park with the family, either."
On the weekend when Fascetti drains a birdie putt, smacks a solid return or sinks a jump shot while playing with friends, it's more about having a good time than winning or losing.
Winning, though, has its place during the workweek. Especially when it comes to developing engines that customers rely on – like the all-new 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V-8 turbocharged diesel for the all-new 2011 Ford Super Duty. Being the best was the only option.
"Our team created a new diesel engine from a clean sheet of paper that has significantly improved torque and horsepower to deliver Super Duty's renowned best-in-class capability with class-leading fuel economy," said Fascetti. "That's winning in every way for our customers."
Fascetti led a fast-moving team that delivered this new heavy-duty diesel 12 to 14 months ahead of what might typically be seen in the industry.
"The thing I'm most proud of with the team is the speed coupled with the robustness of the design," said Fascetti. "It's hard to do both, and this team did it. The responsive low-end torque coupled with the outstanding fuel economy is truly going to be a surprise and delight for every Super Duty diesel customer."
One key attribute of the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel is its NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) characteristics, something Fascetti, a former NVH engineer, can appreciate.
"The challenge for a diesel is to make it less intrusive; people like the powerful sound of a diesel, but they don't want to blow the doors off the vehicle every time they accelerate," said Fascetti. "What we've done is give the customer a powerful yet refined sound never heard before in a heavy-duty diesel."
An early start in Detroit's car culture
Fascetti's father worked for an OEM for 44 years. The native of Bloomfield, Mich., stayed nearby for college, attending Oakland University in Rochester. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Science in systems engineering.
"That's also where I met my wife, Carolyn," said Fascetti. Now living in Bloomfield Hills, they've been married 23 years and have two children – Lauren, 16, and Robert, 13. In the garage you'll find a Lincoln MKT and a Ford Edge. Fascetti wouldn't mind getting his hands on a 2010 Taurus SHO, either. "Refined power with great features," he said.
Power is very much at the heart of what Fascetti and his teams strive to deliver.
"Power, performance and fuel economy are associated with the engine," said Fascetti. "When the engine team accomplishes something for the customer, it's very apparent. Because of that, the team takes a lot of personal pride in what they deliver and what they do. I'm very proud to be part of that as well."
