1. Ford F-Series Top Selling Truck for 40 Years Straight

If you don’t know by now, the Ford F-Series has been the top-selling truck in the US for 40 consecutive years. Ford is celebrating this feat by honoring their loyal fans – both longtime Ford enthusiasts and newbies who have been bitten by the F-series bug in recent years. Ford Social is encouraging their fans to use the #40YearsTough hashtag with their social posts to contribute their trucks to the celebration of the Ford story.

2. 1977 Ford F-150

The forty years of domination began in 1977 when Ford introduced the 6th generation F-150 Ford truck. Rod Stewart (“Tonight’s the Night”) and Andy Gibb (“I Just Want to be Your Everything”) topped the Billboard charts, Jimmy Carter was elected President, the World Trade Center was completed, and Star Wars launched the first of eight (so far) blockbuster movies. The Ford F-Series featured technical improvements including a new 351/400 Series of V8 engines replacing the old FE Series of V8 engines. They introduced special models such as the F-100 Shorty FlareSide; a four-wheel-drive model with a 117-inch wheelbase and 6 ½ foot long FlareSide cargo bed.

3. The F-250 Super Duty is born

The next 40 years would be filled with new platforms, new suspension designs, new frames, technical innovations, multiple generations of new engines and even the divergence of the F-Series into two truck platforms: the F-150 and the Super Duty branded F-250 and F-350 heavy-duty pickups.

6. Larry Dunn uses King Ranch edition F-Series Truck

Ford is celebrating 40 Years Tough throughout 2017 with a series of stories showcasing those who pioneered America’s best-selling trucks and the Ford truck enthusiasts who continue to carry on the tradition today. Larry Dunn uses King Ranch edition F-Series trucks for his construction company, L Dunn Construction in Athens Texas, which specializes in the demolition of structures, hauling of materials, and prep for new construction. During Hurricane Katrina cleanup, Dunn and his employees used Ford F-Series trucks to clean up the destruction and haul away the rubble.

7. Robert Bellospirito's F-250 Super Duty

At the age of 21, and then later when he founded architectural stone company Devonian Stone, New York’s Robert Bellospirito has relied on Ford trucks to get the job done. When he bought his first brand new vehicle in 1986, he purchased an F-350 that he likened to a sports car in terms of power. Devonian Stone went on to become highly successful, and now Bellospirito has embarked on a new career path as a full-time landscape photographer. Bellospirito purchased this F-250 Super Duty and equipped it himself so that it became the ultimate “expedition vehicle.” “Although the end result is different, the method for getting to these [remote] places is as heavy duty as it gets,” he said. “I needed something I really trusted, something up to that task.”

8. Morgan Loman and Loman Helicopter

Morgan Lohman, president and founder of Lohman Helicopter, moved his entire operation to a 5,200 foot high mountain meadow called White Horse Corral. His operation is primarily agricultural, but he also spends time working for various government agencies, reseeding burnt forest lands and assisting in range rehabilitation. The $30,000 custom paint jobs on his two choppers match the vermilion red on his fleet of heavy duty Ford trucks. Join the celebration at www.40YearsTough.com!
