Never Stop Never Stopping

It's been 21 years since the first Ford Explorer rolled off assembly lines. And from Jurassic Park and back, it remains one of the most popular large-sized SUVs in the United States. The vehicle's trademark roomy comfort and large cargo room remain but are now complemented by a host of features across its various trim levels, including the addition of two new hybrid models which make the gas-guzzling models of yesteryear almost charming in their seemingly prehistoric fuel efficiency.

The "ST" Stands for "Sport Technology"

Refined seating for up to seven passengers is still the Explorers major calling card, offering refined comfort and ample room. In fact, the interior is available in an array of durable fabrics as well as in luxurious leather trims, including two new design options available in the XLT Desert Copper Package and the Limited Luxury Package. The Explorer ST will step things up even further under the hood thanks to the addition of an enhanced 3.0-liter turbo V6 that'll give drivers 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard for all 2020 trims, but it is rear-biased for improved handling on dry roads.

Lap of Luxury

Inside, the 2020 Ford Explorer ST offers more second- and third-row legroom than nearly all of its three-row competitors. In addition, it's third-row headroom is top of its class, a destination it shares the Honda Pilot. Beautifully tailored premium leather-trimmed seats and leather door-trim panel inserts are available when you select the new Limited Luxury
Package —a choice that's bound to impress clients and put cranky kids to sleep.

Green Flag, Green Engine

The 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid is expected to be powered by a 3.3-liter V-6 engine, with a new 10-speed modular hybrid automatic transmission. Ford has floated initial estimates of 24 MPG, meaning the hybrid Explorer could go approximately twenty-percent further on one gallon of gas. Best of all, the Ford Explorer hybrid will be featured with both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive versions.

Jolly Green Giant

Add to thank spanking 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with “higher-series” brakes and a towing capability of up to 5,000 pounds, and we're talking about an efficient SUV that makes friends green with envy. In fact, Ford's new hybrid engine system has also been in wide use in the company's Police Interceptor Hybrid Utility, where it's been pairing strong pursuit performance while slashing the inefficiency of the idle time that’s so common for police work. So when you're cruising in your new Ford Explorer hybrid don't speed —you'll be saving more fuel than you think.

Luxurious B.I.G.

Few luxuries have been spared from the 2020 Ford Explorer's high-end luxury Limited trim. In addition to coming complete with Ford's Co-Pilot 360™ Technology, the recently unveiled Ford Safe and Smart™ Package is also standard on Platinum. Choosing the Ford Explorer limited trim will also give drivers the powerful 3.5L EcoBoost engine, 5,000-lb. towing capacity to bring along their RV or boat, as well as Intelligent 4WD with the Terrain Management System in case things get ugly out there. Inside, premium leather-trimmed seats are both heated and cooled, while the accompanying parties can relish in the vehicle's industry-exclusive 500-watt Audio System from Sony with Clear Phase and Live Acoustics technology —as long as you don't play too much live Eagles.

Entertainment Everywhere

The 2020 Ford Explorer Limited trim also comes standard with Dual-Headrest Rear Seat Entertainment System that lets passengers view content from their compatible Apple® or Android™ device, SD card, HDMI cable, USB device and more on a set of 10" screens. While your family's workaholics will claim to out the system to use during long vacation rides, let's face it —their best for onboard moving viewing and gaming. Hopefully, Mom will drive so Dad can watch the Detroit Lions on the trip to Nana's for Thanksgiving.
