2016 F150 Hail damage
Well we got hit with a pretty nasty storm last night here in North Texas. All things considering i was quite lucky and only have 2 noticeable dents, one in the hood and one on the roof. My questions is, have any of the fellow members used paintless dent repair before? I called my local body shop and looks like i have at lease a week to wait before it can be seen.

Years ago I had a brand new Lincoln mk8. It had a softball size dent in the side ...the PDR guy told me he could get out about 90% of it ...well he did it and he told me he was impressed himself!!! The whole dent was removed for 65 dollars...... I was happy!!! I couldn't see it at all!!!! .....give it a try

that must have been some crazy hail, these aluminum bodies are supposed to withstand raining cows and pigs, so I've heard...

Yeah, we were on the edge of the hail center of the storm that went through. The few that hit my truck were between golfball and baseball sized and let me tell you they were hauling the mail. I thought i had a window break when i heard it hit..shattered into pieces(sounded like glass breaking). But as i said, all in all i fell pretty luck considering those around us that got pummeled.

We're in the middle of a huge hail belt, and around here, lots of folks don't even bother fixing hail damage anymore. Myself, I've been lucky and insurance has paid me a lot of money over the years for hail damage. It's a bit like winning the weather lottery, but only works on slightly older or junkier vehicles.

Round 2 of severe weather last night, luckily no more hail damage. Still waiting for my appointment at the PDR place so i can get my estimate. I know a few people that have had hail damage and never fixed their car. I dont think i can do that, especially with a brand new truck with only 4500 miles on it..

PDR is good. Usually not too expensive either. I'm sure theyll want to inspect it good. Sometimes there are dents you can't see very well in the roof rails and stuff until you put a good light on it. My insurance pays hail repairs with no deductible. Not sure about yours. My wife's Mountaineer(since traded away) got caught in a hail storm 4 years ago, got dented up real bad on the hood, lots of little ones. But he found ones all in the roof drain areas where I didn't see them. That repair was a lot, but insurance covered it 100%. Recently on my wife's Durango (what Mounty was traded for) she got the front fender into the garage and put a softball size dent in it, also scuffed and scratched it pretty good. Took it to a different guy this time who does PDR and he did a great job on it. It was dented right above the fender in a factory crease, so I was skeptical but it turned out great. That was $200 paid out of pocket, but he also had a fair amount of buffing to do get the scuffs and scratches out.

Seriously, I've used PDR on multiple vehicles and never had an issue. Frankly, once done, I've never even been able to relocate the dent...
My original concerns were that the paint would end up flaking off or cracking where they do repair. However, on my current vehicle, I have a few spots I had removed about 5 years ago and the paint is still flawless.

Hey Drew, nice to meet a fellow "McKinney-an" on here. I live near Coit and Eldorado (right on the border with Frisco). The aluminum body must be worth something, my '08 XL has about 15 minor dings following Sunday night's storm, although maybe 3 or 4 of those are barely noticeable. I'm not going to bother to repair it since I will be trading it in soon to order a 2017 (or a 2018 if I drag my feet much longer LOL). I've already had it appraised at 2 different places and they're giving me better offers now with the hail damage than they did a couple of months ago...go figure.

The best situation for being in a hail storm is driving a vehicle that you should have dropped the comprehensive insurance on long ago and getting it beat up by hail and the insurance totaling it and selling it back to you for a pittance. Put a new windshield in it and you have a beater to drive for many years.
