I'm looking for that material used to pack in around the firewall opening where the heater core tubes come through. It was also used to seal the evaporator housing halves together, and other such uses.

It is like a non-hardening "clay-like" material. A little sticky. Like play-dough for those old enough to remember that stuff.

I bought some twenty-something years ago. I recall that that is sold in a flat package where the clay-like material was in cut into 6 or 8 inch strips laid out side-by-side about 10 strips wide. I think it was a 3M product. It probably comes in a roll too.

IF I could describe/name it correctly for Google, I'm sure it is still available.

Thanks

I think I found it. After posting here I went to body shop supply website and scrolled through all the 3M products. This is what I'm talking about.

That looks like it. IIRC it also comes in gray too.

I used Mortite strip caulk.

Readily available and seemed to work fine for me.

Go to Home Depot, Lowes or any electrical supply house and get Duct Seal. You can grab a chuck of it and stuff it in anywhere. You can also take a chunk and roll it between your hands until it is long and thin to sandwich between two halves of something.

I use the stuff called thumb gum, I get it at work for free. The hvac field lives off the stuff . It never gets hard and makes a good seal

"dum dum", or "dub dub", is what we called it. It also works good when you have plastic dash panels that rub together, and squeak.
