Better check your power steering fluid!

I gotta admit,I don't check it very often. As long as I see no leaks or don't hear noises,I seldom think about it.
Not anymore! I just happened to check it and it looked like strawberry milkshake in the reservoir!
I know, you're thinking water in it,right? NOPE! Apparently it's a result of me adding a little power steering conditioner months before.
So I spent this evening with 3 qts. of type F running it and sucking it out, refilling, running and sucking it out, until I'd used all 3 qts.
Looks a LOT better now, BUT I'M KEEPING an eye on it from now on. don-ohio

Maybe your right, but I know mine gets water in it. If you look above it, the drain for the windshield cowl is right there. Do your self a favor and put a soup can over it, it works/fits like its made for it.

Okay, maybe I'm wrong. Thanks for the heads up,SittinGuy! It does look just like water contamination. I just had some tomato soup so looks like I can try the can method.LOL!

You were right,SittinGuy! I looked again today and the drain hose was completely unhooked from the downspout tube. There was already dripped water from a light rain that was accumulating on the power steering cap. I got it cleaned out, hooked up and I thank you once again! don-ohio (:^)

Good find. But still stick that tomato soup can on it. I've went with the refried bean can,,,,, but each to his own

Regular tin cans will start rusting after the tin plating wears off. It may be better to cut the top off of an aluminum soda or beer can for this, as they don't rust.

Beer cans are to light, they jingle around. I've had the same soup can on for a LONG time

There's nothing says that soup can couldn't be painted to prevent it from rusting.

Thanks for the tip sittinguy. I'll start using one. Never gave it a thought about the cowl drain dumping on the PS cap. When I saw my PS fluid boiling the water out on a hot summer day, I chalked it up to some dummy putting water in there. Now I know where it came from and how to keep it out of there.
