My truck has no switches in the door jam to operate the done light when the door opens and closes....I have no dome light either ...It's missing but the wire is there.

..Anyway is the dome light turned on and off by turning the headlight switch ?
did the 66 fords come with switches in the door jams ? Maybe mine where taken out and patched up ?

 

The dome light is turned on by turning the headlight switch all the way to the left.
You can put door jam switches in the truck to turn the light on, no problem at all,
And you can put lights under the dash to come on with the dome light

 

I added a dome/map light from an 80's Bronco. A bunch of these are available. Drilled and "keyholed" the jambs for light switches so the dome will light when the doors are opened. The map light is switched on at the fixture. Also salvaged the mounting surface from the Bronco inner roof to make mounting and wiring it easier.

 

Do you have a couple pics of your light/switches and how did you wire the door jamb switches into the switch, dose the switch have to be turned all the way to the left for the jamb switches to work?

Initially that's what I bought, but was really disappointed in the cheap plastic housing, so I sent them back. I found some Mustang switches that have metal housings and are much nicer for almost the same money (check ebay). I believe the hole in the door jamb is about 3/4" with two flat keyways filed in to fit the switch. Still working on the truck, so nothing is installed yet. I won't run these off the light switch because I want the dome to come on anytime the door is opened, not just when the headlights are on. So a Hot wire will run to them at all times, when the door is opened, the circuit closes and the dome lights up. This is the way most cars with courtesy lights work and I'm sure you can find a generic wiring diagram showing the setup.

 

I think the bumps, or maybe just the early bumps, used screw-on switches that will fit into the hole at the bottom of the jamb. At least that's where I put mine on a truck I had years ago.
