3 Inch Receiver ?

Guys on my Ford Web page build sheet it shows a 2.5 inch receiver? Thought I read this on here. Any ideas, as the 3 inch would be nice. Also read the safety chain hook up portion is a pain? on the new 3 inch? Thanks

3" is gone on short bed trucks. 6.7 SRW 350 long beds get it. HD 250 long beds get it. DRW's get it.

The drawback of the 3" receiver is that there aren't that many inserts that have a 3" shank. If you're going to be using a WDH then 2.5" is the best you can do. For plain ball mounts, Weigh-Safe sells a variety of 3" shanks.

I'm stuck using my 2" shank WDH. I've gotten quite good at cussing at the sleeves.

I'd take a 2.5." 3" is a joke to me. Anybody going to bumper pull 21K really needs to be hooked to a goose or fifth wheel.

I would like to see how much a F-350 would squat with a 21K trailer hooked up.

With a 2500 pound pallet sitting on the very back of the flatbed my 350 srw is barely touching on the front of the top overload. So a 350 drw with a 21000 pound trailer would probably be squatting about that much, give or take.

I ordered a 6.5' bed F-250 6.7l with the high capacity tow package. Is my truck not coming with the 3" receiver?

According to Rodney, since you have the short bed, you're not going to get the 3" receiver.

That is the only unknown Caruso but as Jim says, it should be a 2.5" with the short bed HD 250. I've heard conflicting info but it really wouldn't make sense to have the higher rated SB SRW 350 get a 2.5" and have the SB HD250 get a 3". However, no one that I've seen here on FTE has gotten a Job 2 SB HD 250 to confirm one way or the other. Be sure to report when you get yours!

3 inch ?

I guess I do not see the advantage of a 3 inch receiver. These are new for 2017. Super Duty trucks have been pulling incredible loads for years with 2-1/2 receivers. I have never heard of anyone lamenting the low capacity of the 2-1/2 inch receiver.

Happy Trails

At 21k, they are rated higher than the 2.5" receiver. That said, most will never use that additional capacity.
