Kansas City or Dearborn?
Does anyone know if it's possible to specify which factory builds your truck (KC or Dearborn)? I'm originally from Detroit and my Pops was a 40+ year employee of FoMoCo, all of it at Dearborn Engine Plant/Dearborn Fuel Tank. Since he passed in 2010 it would be kind of cool if I could ensure mine was built at DTP. Anyone have inside knowledge on how builds are allocated? Is it luck of the draw, or certain builds are allocated to one or the other?

Yes sir...my Platinum is basically the same truck as your Lariat with a "Brushed Look" grill and some additional "bling"... The Platinum just has some of the "options" the Lariat has as standard. Nothing major though

I know for a fact the Raptor is built at Dearborn, or at least it was for the first generation...
I looked up images of the Dearborn plant, and I didn't see a single lower-trim level truck or even one without a chrome grille.
I also saw a couple STXs and XLs in Kansas City assembly pictures. That being said, I also saw mostly Lariats at Kansas City too.

I would consider the Lariat to be a higher trim level especially with the 502a package. My 2012 Lariat 3.5 EcoBoost 502A package with just about every extra option was built in Dearborn. My 2016 Lariat 2.7 EcoBoost 501A with very few extra options was built in KC. I did notice when I was shopping the 2.7L F150's seemed to come from KC and the 3.5Ls came from Dearborn.
I was also told the KC plant will build all the F150's with 8' boxes, all F150's with the heavy duty package & all F150's targeted for commercial markets.

Thanks for everyone's input, it is appreciated. When I sit down with the vehicle ordering guru at the Ford dealership later this week I'll ask him about it also. It may be a purely random process as the responses so far would seem to indicate. I've also wondered if maybe it depends on the dealer's geographic location. I live in the north Dallas area and walking through the dealer lots I'd say it's about 80% KC builds and maybe 20% Dearborn. So maybe east of the Mississippi gets predominantly Dearborn builds, while west of it gets KC? I will ask if it's possible to request a Dearborn build, or if it's completely out of their hands. I'll follow up once I know (assuming I get a definitive answer).

True! Although the answer I'm expecting is somewhere along the lines of, "it just depends."
Anyway, it's not a showstopper for me. It would just be one of those nice touches you get when ordering your vehicle, like seeing your name on the Monroney sticker.
