400 CID V8 - what motor oil to use?
I live i Europe, so the truck is a mistery for anyone here, insluding the good ol' boys at the Ford dealership. 1980 F250HD, 4WD, 400CID V8, automatic.
Trying to change all the fluids, and nobody can specify motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering, or diff oils. I have the OEM owner's manual, but even Ford dealers cannot find the specs. What do you guys use, and is there anything that i could find in Europe? It would be silly for me to buy fluids from across the pond
Thanks, guys!

I know these Cleveland V8's are not that popular, but still, i assume someone owns one)
I wanted to know what brand of modern oil they use, so that i can check the specifications on that and try to find a match with the mainstream EU oils available here. We stock Motul, Mobil 1, Castrol, and many many other brands, except for Pennzoil, Quaker State, and others specific to the american market. I have learned the importance of correct oil after my LR3 diesel received Castrol oil, without the Ford specifications. Two stuck valves, all came loose and fine after an oil change.

None of these engines are really "thoroughbreds" that require some special oil. You could probably run anything in it and it would be fine. The only thing different about these old engines compared to the new are the hydraulic flat tappets or lifters. They used to put a little zinc in the oil to help with lubricating these parts, but as the years have gone by they went to roller lifters, and as emissions have tightened they have reduced the zinc content of the oil.
It may be nothing to it, but some people try to find a oil that has more zinc content in it. That's about it.
