First towing experience

I have a 20 foot food trailer that weighs in about 8,000 pounds. I had been towing with my 2016 F150 and it was too much so I traded it in on a 2017 F250 gas. Today I towed the trailer for the first time. WOW - what a difference. Much more power. Much more stable. No weight distributing hitch hassle. The F250 in tow mode spaced gears shifts 1-4 perfectly to keep acceleration going. I would tow the trailer at 60 MPH in my F150 and feel like I was using 90% of its capability. With the F250 I was towing very comfortably at 70 MPH. Love it.

nice combo. I really like the F150's but the Super Dutys shine while towing.

Nice truck - which tonneau cover are you using?

I've got the mx4 cover on it. Very happy with it.

Looks great! Does your F250 have 3.73s or 4.30s? At 70 is the truck in 5th or 6th gear on the flats?

Also, which F150 motor are you comparing it to?

3.73 gears on my truck. It is in 5th gear at 70. No chance of getting into 6th gear. Goes between 4th and 5th depending on grade.

My F150 had the 5L V8.

I also bought a weigh safe hitch to tow with. Love it as well as it allows me to verify tongue weight. We load different amounts of food/supplies in the truck and its good to verify tongue weight is in good range. Even the propane tanks can change the tongue weight by a hundred+ pounds as they get lower.

I believe the weight/ size plus all the larger safety components of a Super Duty helps when getting in to heavier trailers. I'm sure a F150 can pull a lighter load fine but size does have its place.

Exactly what I needed to hear, to confirm my thoughts as well. With the right equipment, you don't have to white knuckle or worry. Yeah an F150 can handle a lot, but no next level peace of mind confidence as you have in an F250.
