grandpas old truck help

hello everyone i need help with some information on 1980 ford f100 ranger explorer. im building a 1984 ford f150 to be a 1980 ford f100 ranger explorer like my grandpas. i got everything figured out except for 2 things
1 my grandpas truck had a tan or saddle colored vinyl mate floor it wasnt carpet and all the ones i can find are black im either wrong about what it is or im just going to have to paint the black one
2 my grandpas truck was white with what i remember was a small tan pinstripe down the side but my father remembers it yellow, granted nither one of us has seen this truck in over 20 years my grandpa wasnt the type to add and or change anything about his truck. was that stock or a style for that type of truck cause i cant find anything on it .

any info would be helpful and before you ask the only photos we had burned in a house fire

I am not sure about the floor mat and if they came in colors. My 80 had a black interior with a black mat.

The only comment I can make about the stripe, it could have had almost anything on it in any color. The factory had certain stripes and moldings, but dealers were famous for dressing these trucks up to help them sell. From a simple stripe like your grandfather's truck, to full blown trucks with custom packages with their own names on the side of the truck. None of this was really factory, though the factory never discouraged it apparently.

I have the tape stripes documented here: F-Series Tape Stripe Codes - ???Gary's Garagemahal. And the 1980 Explorer stripes were Type 8's.

Welcome to the forum!

The rubber floor mats were definitely offered in colors to match the interior. I have seen many in junkyards with rubber mats in tan, blue, green etc., however I don't know if any of those colors are available as new replacements. You might have to order a black one and use SEM vinyl paint to match the original color. You might get lucky and find one at a salvage yard but most of these are not in useable condition any more.

As far as the stripes, I don't know if these pictures are helpful or not, but they are of the 1980 Ranger Explorer package:

Edit: the bottom pic is a google image grab and may actually be a 1981 brochure, not 1980. Notice the stripe difference and tailgate panel.

I have 2 1981 F100 trucks a Custom flare side I am rebuilding and a Ranger parts truck.
Both are red inside and both have red mats. I have looked (quickly) for red mats but have only found black ones like you have.

So I am either going with a black mat or a red rug. I like the rug to cut down on noise & heat as I have installed AC in the truck.

As for the stripe I would say it would have been tan to match the inside not yellow.
The information given is good so go thru the factory strips and if that does not pan out then it was a dealer added stripe.
There are a lot of after market stripes to pick from.

KR - The last pic is from an '81 Explorer brochure, as shown here: 1981 Explorer Brochure - ???Gary's Garagemahal.

As for colored mats, I don't have that documented on my site yet, so don't have easy access to the part numbers. But I will research it......

Edit: Note that Package B includes "color-keyed floor mats".

Ok, reseach says there were floor mats in various colors, as shown below. Unfortunately, the black star says the item "must be improvised or procured locally". In other words, Ford didn't provide replacements - as shown by the second pic.

Having said that, there is a very remote chance that some dealer somewhere has one left - if we but knew the correct part number. Unfortunately they eliminated the part numbers for the mats in the last issue of the catalog, which is what I have. But, Numberdummy may have an earlier catalog that has the part number - and especially the suffix which has the color code.

I'll have to look in an older microfiche parts catalog to get the floor mat part numbers.

Viewer sittin' on the floor, as I don't have a place for it yet, so it'll be a coupla days before I dig up the numbers.

Thanks, Bill. And then I'll document it on my web site, once and for all.

You won't be able to buy the tape stripes, but a good painter can replicate them. I have that brochure, so if you need a closeup just let me know.
