Flareside Owners...JUMP IN!

This may fizzle and fade into the annals of necro-threads, but let's try it anyway, shall we.

We love ALL Dent and Bumpside pickups, my first was a '73 HighBoy F250. But as Flareside owners we have some unique needs and challenges that pertain solely to Ford's Flareside model pickups.

Post some pics of interesting trucks you've seen or even just got off the interwebz. Reputable vendors for parts, trucks being parted-out, helpful articles or videos pertaining to the Flareside beds, pretty much anything that doesn't necessarily pertain to the greater Styleside population. 90% of Ford pickup info is homogeneous...let's try to keep that in the regular forum.

If the Mods so desire, I'd like this or a similar Flareside Club thread made a stickie right up there w the SuperCab and CrewCab threads.

For starters, here's mine...

A '76 F150...waiting patiently for me to get it into DD status. That process is starting to get under way NOW. It sat for a very hard winter and is ready for some love (and of course, money) to be splashed on and into it...

Whatchu got? Who do you know? Where's the good parts? 2 or 4wd doesn't matter, they're all cool...JUMP IN!

HERE ! HERE!
I second the motion for this to be a sticky
(why should the crew's and super's be special)
I'm with you on this
After all It would be interesting to know what the build ratio was,
As you know, for us there is more then one part on our trucks that are truly
OBSOLETE, meaning that unless we stumble upon it in a wrecking yard, we CANNOT order a "replacement" from NPD,DC etc....

this is my 1977 F100 Custom FLAIRSIDE
like yours, still showing it love and money every opportunity
plans just keepin' her stock...

I built this one 37 years ago. Started with a 77 f250, shortend the frame to 117", found a 67 ford bed, put new oak planks down. Had to use chevy fenders cause that's all we had. This thing was a beast.

Now that is a SWEET looking truck..congratulations. The steelies and hubcaps are the coolest!

After all the trouble I went to to find that ONE piece of trim for mine (R front, visible in the pic) that I needed to make it 100%, I think I'm gonna strip the trim off and go without like yours.
Much thanks to Twinzilla who sold me the trim piece I needed, but I can't reconcile the glittery cab with the austere bed...the lack of balance really f**ks with my asthetic...I hate to do it, but I need some type of "shiny" on the bed to make it "even out". A bed-rail cover would do it, something that wraps over the sides...anyone?

Cool truck...I never noticed how square the Chevy Stepside fenders are compared to Ford's. Looks like a BEAST.

Shiny Bed Rails

Options ( more like an opinions)

get the short bed fleet side trim it may balance the bed rails out,
down side, would be having to drill the holes and then deal with the dirt and debris later on in life.

second option would be to have a piece of stainless sheet metal formed to where it wraps around the "top and roll" of the bed side, still need to mount with drilling

third option would be to spray a "chrome" paint and call it a day

side note, Twinzilla and 77&79 F250 are great guys to get parts from

Ford = Styleside, a Fleetside is a Chevrolet.

There are two versions of upper body side mouldings: With black vinyl inserts (Ranger XLT) or without black vinyl inserts (some Custom & Ranger).

1977/79 Race Track mouldings were not installed on Flaresides for an obvious reason.

Here is a bad pic of my 78 4x4 with what I was told is an 82 bed. I kind of like the squared style bed with the body lines of the cab. I just have a lot to do and limited funds so a long road ahead with slow progress

I like the 80-86 Flaresides. I would have brought one home if I'd found one before I found my 76.

I'm not sure which I see fewer of, they're all pretty rare anymore.

I alway kinda liked the tubular bed rails...they have a clean look to em. I found a universal-fit pair (48") in polished stainless steel for under $110 at AutoAnything, they have chrome ones too.

This is a departure for me, usually my first move w a new vehicle is to strip it of trim and geegaws.
