Anyone have another theory on where this could have come from? It was piled up under my turbo, found it today when I was doing a quick inspection. I know it's new because I had the whole top end pulled down this summer. I can't seem to find where it came from in the engine compartment though.

That looks a little like the material the liner under the hood is made of.

 

Definitely looks like some critters were nesting. I haven't had anything that bad but found plenty of droppings on top of the engine and in the engine valley. I read up on some tips to keep them out. Some were a little intricate home remedies but the one I've done is dryer sheets. I have several scented dryer sheets tied to out of the way spots under the hood (battery cable, master brake cylinder, etc.). I have used small zip ties to ensure they stay secure (I have a tendency to overthink things). I don't know if they've been working or the rodents have found a better hangout but I haven't any more droppings since I started using them.

 

sure looks like the insulation that can be found on the hood and firewall, which I have very little of left. Chipmunks like to take mine and best in front of the air filter.

 

I always heard that dryer sheets were the way to go, I put them all over in my camper one fall. Dug it out in spring and a mouse had actually crapped all over a dryer sheet. Not sure what to make of that.....

 

Yeah I think dryer sheets are not reliable. They chewed one up in the cabin air filter compartment of my car and used it in their nest. Maybe certain dryer sheets work, but poison and traps work better.

 

I have been on a farm the past few months and have had a little issue with mice. Usually I keep peppermint in the truck and they stay away. I keep a poison block on the driver floor board so I can see if anything has been in there chewing on it.
