Factory Power Running Boards

Hey guys,

Has anyone installed or know of some resources to install the factory power deployable running boards on a truck not ordered from the factory with them?

I know they are programmed into the head unit and there are options like AMP Research but I am a bit OCD about extra wiring and aftermarket.

Thanks for all the responses

I wondered the same. I think the general consensus was that it either was not possible and/or cost prohibitive.

I went with amp, and they are great.
I didn’t install the lighting yet, but the puddle lights on my mirrors give off plenty of light

you can get a stainless trim piece for the amps that make them look nearly identical to the factory

Do you happen to know where I could find that? I haven't seen that before?

i asked this a while back and the answer i found was no. per ford, if you didnt get them from the factory, you dont have the hookups on your harness to connect them.

amp is your best bet. i too liked the factory steps and integration better.

Extremely happy with my AMP steps. I wanted the factory power deploying steps, but the one they were willing to haggle about on the lot had the extended fixed boards. Ultimately, I like the way the AMP steps fit, function, and look. Great product.

Another happy AMP buyer. Could have used a longer harness in a few spots, but made due. I don't get the chrome strip. Boards that are tucked away should not bring attention to themselves. They should not say "hey, look at me, there is a step tucked up under here!". The whole point is to hide the step, provide some extra off-road clearance, and bring attention to the tractor trailer clearance under your rig.

I installed AMP boards for my 2011 Denali XL. You should also know that they can custom fit the length of the boards to an extent. Mine are longer than the stock power steps, and have the chrome strip. Just contact them and talk to them. If you like, I can measure the length of my boards so you have a rough idea of how long you can get them.

I've installed the Amp Powersteps and can hardly imagine the factory steps being any better. If you get the optional pass through OBD connector, you never know the Amp is aftermarket as everything functions as original. No stripe, but the black matches the plastic trim around the wheel wells and at the back. On my tricoat white, I think the black looks very good.

This likely won't help you but they aren't tied into the head-unit as you said in the OP, they are controlled in the dash screen options.

My mistake @eightysecond thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression they were controlled on the head-unit like the massaging seats.
