2001 v10 excursion
Good evening fellow Ford lovers,
First time poster and member.
I have came across a 2001 v10 excursion 200k mile. $5500
I grew up driving and currently drive 16 f250 6.7, myself and father have had almost all the different model f250's, and yes the 6.0. we all make poor life decisions.
I have always wanted this urban assault vehicle.
Is there anything i need to look for during the test drive. Also what future problems should i be aware of?
Thanks for the help

Location? Look for rust first and foremost. Maintenance history? If not, check the suspension, brakes, and ball joints... all easy to do yourself but can get spendy though if it needs it all at once. Is it 4wd or 2wd? Check all the features... expect some things to be broken due to age/use. Most things are pretty easy to fix and if you search here, chances are that someone else has already gone through it.
If it has a good service history and is clean, the price is fair, though I'd offer less and work up to $5k. If there are no records, or it has some rust/issues, I'd offer way less and work up to $4,200 or so.
The mileage isn't bad, but if there are no service records, you could get hit with a lot of stuff quickly, or spend a lot trying to get it to a point where it is going to be reliable enough to count on.
If you can post pics, location, and more details we can give you a better answer...
GL!

I have two i am looking at, both in dallas, both 4wd.
This is the pricey one,

This is the "cheap" one,

Sounds like pretty standard checks as far as used trucks go.

The 6.0 price is stupid high.
On the V-10, check the exhaust manifold studs to see if any are missing. These modular motors tend to have them break off and that will lead to exhaust leaks. Shop costs for a new studs runs about $800 or so but you can do it in the driveway if you are a DIYer, I did mine and swapped the manifolds for headers. The earlier V-10s had the issue where there were only like 4 threads in the spark plug holes (was increased to 7 threads in the'03 model year), so care must be taken when changing plugs with proper torque values to reduce the risk of a plug blow out.
Play very close attention to the transmission on the test drive, with proper care and maintenance the 4R100 will last many miles but, like anything else when abused that lifespan is reduced.
The V-10 XLT does look pretty clean, but I'm somewhat partial to 4X4 V-10 XLT cloth interior EXs.

Looks like the 01 was smacked in the rear so use that to your advantage when talking owner down on price. Not that it is really that big of a deal but it looks like your bumper on there is sagging too from that impact. Other than that the truck looks very clean.
Not sure I would pay $5500 I paid $3500 for mine in California but it is 2000 Limited 4x4 with only 189k miles on it at the time. Still had its fair share of minor issues but look at talking that guy down just a little.
