92 f250 4x4 e4od Transmission swap to manual

Aight guys , i got a 92 f250 7.3 idi 4x4 and lately tranny's beeing a jerk (e4od) , hard eratic shift , going into neutral while doing 60mh , not wanting to downshift unless you put it on 1st or 2nd yourself , i dont even want to repair it , im looking to swap a manual in , what are the options ? zf5 ? Heard about some 7 speed ez shift ?? IH aplication trannys ? Truck's a daily driver and modarate workhorse

stick with the diesel ZF 5 speed. any other trans is going to give you more headaches than it is worth.

Indeed I just swapped a ZF5 in mine, in place of a C6. It's much nicer. Feels like it has a lot more torque, and of course far lower RPM at any speed without the slushbox converter in there. It's a fairly easy swap, only thing that made mine a PITA was getting the turbo off and on, rust bolts and crusty pipes in the way of everything.

ZF6 can be done, but they are more expensive, require floor pan work for clearance, and you don't get a taller overdrive as it's about the same ratio for granny and overdrive. Would be nice to have an extra gear along the way, I swapped a 460 wide ratio gearset in my ZF5 as I didn't want the very tall first and reverse gear I've heard diesel guys complain about with the close ratio ZF5.
