Opening a door with malfunctioning latch

2004 4 door F350. Rear driver side door handle snapped the other day. Still worked from inside and carefully from the outside. Got a new OEM handle and installed it. Pretty simple, worked fine.
Later that day, it would not open from the outside, felt like it is locked. Big surprise now it no longer works from the inside.
Got the panel off, looked at all the linkage, seems intact, tried a screwdriver to help move levers along. No luck.
Stopped at a body shop today, they said they think the latch has failed. Can leave it with them.
I really want to work with his out myself, but how can I get that door open?
Don't see much on the topic checking on google.
Thanks

You need to remove the latch again sounds broken to me. What ever you don't drop it at a body shop.

Look at the latch and mechanism on the other door that does work to see if you can spot any differences. The way they build these things, it's possible that there's some small plastic piece or something that fell off the broken door that you need.

remove the part you installed.. reach inside and move linkage to unlatch lock.

go from there.. something else broke. or came apart .

if necessary, remove lock/latch assembly and oil/grease.. inspect...

that is what the body shop would do anyway, or just install a new one.

fyi. most small shops.. (NOT body shops) deal with this weekly. aka corner repair type gas stations.. if any in your area...
