Aftermarket Tire Pressure Monitor System
#2
Have used Hawkshead and TST for several years each.
Hawkshead worked fine on two smaller toyhaulers, up to 30 feet. Caught a leak and a leaking delam before it came apart. Took a while to update which was always a concern. Would not update at all on my 39' fifth wheel, even with repeater. Pulled into a parking lot for a pee break late one night to hear a major leak on a trailer tire that the Hawkshead never reported. Got lucky on that one. Had TST the following week.
TST... works great. Can see it frequently updating. Works with my fifth wheel without a repeater. Heck, with my truck in the garage and the trailer on the far side of the house, it still reads the trailer tires.

I use the TireMinder TPMS on my dually and 5th wheel. Their kit includes a repeater so the trailer can stay updated as you travel and not loose the signal if it is a long trailer.
I have sensors on all the truck and tire wheels and also the spares on both vehicles. I have been using this system for over 3 years now with no problems. They do have a free battery replacement program where you get new batteries each year.
The system did save my butt last year on the interstate in KS. I got a sudden pressure loss on one wheel. I pulled over and found a metal valve stem loose. The tire was low in air but not flat. I was able to tighten the nut on the stem since the nut was on the outside of the wheel. I proceed to the next exit where I could safely stop and pump the tire back up.
I believe TireMinder and the Hawkshead are similar setups.
