thinking about bidding on this

My brother is looking for a truck. Any guesses as to what caused this fire?

Could it have been the brakes? Fires burn upwards, and this one is burned by the fenderwell. Or, what could have started a fire on that side of the engine compartment? What could have been damaged?

looks like it might have been

Possible. Tire doesn't look too toasty though. Battery cables maybe?

I'd rather buy a wrecked truck then one with any kind of fire damage though.

this one went for more than I wanted to pay. There's just not much on that side to burn that would keep it from running. Engine looked good.

What did the HVAC housing look like. Could of been blower or, blower resistor. There's some current there and with a bad connection I've seen plugs melt. Also that area houses the vacuum pump but those wires are tiny.

ROFLMAO Needless to say, I'm a bit burnt out on Eseries too. But this is for my brother. He's looking for a used truck, and I'm trying to keep him from getting ripped off by the car lots.

I usually skip all the burn outs, but this one looked like no damage to the engine, and only had 100k miles. There's not a lot on that side of the engine compartment that's critical. Strange place for a fire though. Not the battery, and prolly not the brakes or the tire woulda melted.

Didn't matter though, it sold for more than we wanted to pay.

All I had were those pics. Didn't actually go to the auction.

Besides fire, stay clear of any with water damage. They could run good today and be gone tomorrow.

Pantera77, I like your avatar, makes me think of Big Daddy Roth, Rat Fink, and Cartoons magazines I read as a kid.

Water and fire damage are two electrical nightmares and unless you have the right
electrical tools and know how to use them it will still drive you crazy.

That would eliminate me, lol. But, I would have only bought this truck real cheap, so that I had enough money to buy all new modules and wiring harnesses.

Mostly, I was interested in what could cause a fire like that - not really much on that side of the truck to catch fire.
