1999 f250 5.4 motor shot

I have a 99 f250 and just found out head gasket is blown and one cam has a cracked lobe. I'm going to go to local salvage yard and get a motor to put in and sell it. What year model 5.4 will work in my 99? It has a aluminum intake and my buddy 02 has a all plastic intake is only thing im confused about. Thanks

Do you realize why no one responded?

No one wants to be an accessory to your scheme of passing a truck with a 'junk yard motor' to an unsuspecting guy, who most of us identify with. Think about it...

go to car-part.com and it'll give you interchange information when you dial in the details on your engine and search. I believe 2004-up had the 3 valve motor whereas you have the earlier 2 valve motor. you don't want the 3 valve motor. the plastic intakes are known to crack, so either avoid those or swap over to your aluminum one, which is easy.

to be honest, for what you'll pay for a decent running used 5.4L (maybe $1200-$1400), you're better off just getting a $2k-ish rebuilt motor with a warranty and dropping that in. Take it from me who has done this both ways: you're time is not worth the agony of dicking around with busted oil pan and exhaust manifold bolts. trust me on this.

Besides, a used truck with a new engine and paperwork to back it up will fetch you far more money on the used car market that just putting in a used engine and playing stupid about it.
