Dual Batteries W/ 6.2L gas (87M)

Anyone have a picture of where the second battery gets mounted with option 87M "Medium Dual Batteries"?

why would a 6.2 need two ???? You would be better off with a big alternator just saying had my 2009 5.4 f 350 plow truck lights all over and 9.6 ft v plow no issues 200 amp single

Back in the day they had a tool box that sat on top the second battery tray. Wish they still offered that.

No picture, but I'm guessing same locations as the diesel. The air intake has moved, freeing up the space.

I was originally going to order a gas truck, and this was on the order sheet. Why would you NOT want two batteries? You could run your headlights forever without the engine on, run the stereo, etc. More power is always better. I think its a cool option.

Dual batteries, yes. Dual alternators, no. Not available on the 6.2.

Right you are.. I love ford's wording on their options.. 67E... Extra Extra Heavy Duty Alternator.. I read that as an Extra alternator, that happend to be Extra Heavy Duty..
but I guess it's really just an Extra Extra Heavy Duty.... that works too..

Yeah, I got a laugh out of "extra-extra" heavy duty. But yeah, you'll have plenty of juice.

It is not fleet only. On build and price, it is not clear, but the option to select is "Medium Duty Battery" for $210. On the order sheet it clarifies that the medium duty battery is the dual battery setup. It's also unclear why they call it the medium duty battery. If ordered, but batteries in the gas truck are 750CCA, same exact batteries as in the diesel trucks.

It sounds like somebody wants to own a diesel. pure Overkill commercial plow truck for 45 years with gas trucks with hydraulic over Electric 40 amp draws 12 hour storms never killed a single battery but, if it makes you feel good put them in LOL it's just money. On a serious note though it would probably be better with dual alternators or one large alternator what is the largest alternator allowed in the new 2017? My 2009 f 350 5.4 only had 135 amp alternator 5 years of plowing no issues, installed a AGM battery from Napa lasted the life of the truck and the young gentleman who bought is still running it today. I see the guy every day at the local convenience store makes me laugh to see my old truck drive around.

The power choice would, in my thoughts, depend upon the plowing jobs. I used my '78 F350 over 12 years with a 70 amp alt and a single 600 amp battery. Four beam rotating flasher and a 15 year old Western 8' which used 2,478 amps (lol) each pick. A couple of short parking lots and blowing snow on the alternator belt could find the truck dead in the snowbank when pulling the T Bar. Get out the spare battery and jumpers, then turn off the heater and revolving light for a while and tread lightly.
The moral of the story is short lots or many driveways in quick succession can run the power down to catastrophic shut down. New pumps use much less power but numerous cycles can still have effect. If a serious business I would look for the extra alternator and extra battery as necessities. And as I used to do, be sure your batteries are fully charged either through driving or charging before heading out since they are one of the critical parts to providing good service to your customers.

Can someone post pictures of the dual batteries? I don't remember why I didn't order them, I'd like to have them to be able to comfortably run some electronics for a bit with the engine off, though I'll probably put in an auxiliary battery solenoid as well. One deep-cycle auxiliary and the normal starting battery.

Wonder how hard it is to wire AUX 5 and 6 to a different battery...

25 years ago you're correct electric equipment on plow trucks sure did draw a lot of amps. However in the last 12 years we've sure come a long way with LED lighting and very efficient plows. Like I said earlier if you want it go ahead and get it just more stuff too go bad down the road and the expense of an extra battery. But from 09 -15 a lot of driveways and parking lots I never had a battery issue in my super duty with only a 135 amp alternator and small 5.4 and 35 inch tires with 4.56 gears to keep her moving LOL. Just curious though what is the largest alternator for a 2017 6.2?
