how to get the wide side chrome moldings off...
now my truck will get a fresh paint and I want to reuse the original side moldings.
I know that there are retainers I has to turn to get the molding off, but is there a special tool I can use?
and if they are off, how can I mont them back on?
do anyone has the OEM numbers from the side moldings, so I can better find them in the web.
or better, anyone in forum will sell them. I'm looking for the RH short one at the cab corner and the next one on the bed...is that the quarter panel? I dont know...need the OEM numbers.
the car is a 1986 F250 with reg. cab/long bed
greetings from germany, HARDWARD

GREEN SALES CO. has 3.
Genuine Ford mouldings come with the clips that are shown as circled letters. Unfortunately, unlike 1973/79, there are no pics of the individual clips for 1980/86, only the part numbers are listed.
Green Sales ships "across the pond" via Fed-Ex.

It's been a long time, going from memory here. Open the door and look on the inside edge. You might see a screw you can undo for the end clip. I want to say the end clips have a screw, and the middle clips are just plastic. You can take a wide putty knife and pry them off. When you pry you can see the trim bow out where there is no clips, and not bow much where there are clips. Stop and slide the putty knife down to the clip and then pop it off.
You will then see the plastic clips just slide to the side and come off with a key-hole slot. You are then left with small metal studs that the factory welded in place. If you replace any panels that had the studs welded in place, I don't see any reason why you could not drill a hole and put a screw in for the stud. You may have to grind the head of the screw down so it fits the key-hole in the clip.

The rear pieces on the bed have clips and acorn nuts, the front part of the bed has the same. The small piece on the back of the cab has 2 acorn nuts, 1 you can see and the other you have to feel for. The door is clips and maybe a acorn nut towards the front of the door towards the hinge. The trim over the fender well on the front fenders I believe are all clips but don't quote me on that.

thanks for the quick answers...sorry for my late reply, out for work, thanks BOSS.
@numberdummy, I have the 1986 partslist but the page you have post is NOT there. it's a CD from LMC. thank you, that helps me alot.
@franklin/maverick, yep, I look close(er) and find the nuts from behind, the between plastic clips are come loose with a flat tool I use.
but I wonder how can I remount them. blind, hidden by the molding?

OK, guys forget my last question...i got it.
plastic retainer back on the pins, molding first over the top edge off the retainer, then push on the lower end, and "click" its back on the panel.
I found a link to an older post from 2007 by numberdummy
