1975 F150 Explorer

Quick question: what is top money for a 10,000 mile example of a 1975 F150 Explorer? My experience is best aligned with newer model trucks so I thought I'd reach out here before I made the purchase.

As far as condition goes, it's as if it just rolled off the showroom floor, everything original except battery and tires.

Best answer is what is it worth to you. There are still a bunch of these old trucks around and some that are better then new after being restored. I'd venture to guess around 7-8 k would be a fair price.

See if you can verify the mileage. These speedometers hit 99,999.9 miles and then start over at "zero".

Yes, best I can tell is that it's original miles. It's just when it comes to price on these older models that I have difficulty.

I went to the NADA classic price guide. According to it, that truck in my area would go for retail:
Original MSRP $4,002
Low retail $3,350
Average retail $9,300
High retail $17,100

Granted, that's retail, but it's a lot high than I would've expected.

That considers the low mileage correct? If so, we're in the ballpark. Thank you.

Your profile says you're in Indiana so I'd say it'd go for more there than in Oregon, Idaho, or the dry Southwest. Just based on the number of nice trucks left in your area can skew prices quite a bit.

I rarely agree with NADA guides, but that didn't look too far off to me. Is it 4x4 or 2wd? If Indiana is anything like Minnesota, supply and demand inflates the prices for the 4x4's much higher than the 2wd models in equal condition.

If you or someone you know is buying, please show pics when you get it home!

Always keep in mind, no matter what it is, just because of the low miles doesn't mean that it will run and stop like it just rolled off the show room floor. Brake shoes and pads will be rotted and toast. Engine and tranny will most likely leak. Electrical components will seize up. The list will go on. Why does it have 10k miles? Has it been driven 10k mile since a restoration? I bought a 1949 military jeep, with 1500 miles, that was in storage for almost 45 years and everything was wrong with it. Brake shoes and clutch literally fell apart. Every piece of rubber was so rotted. The engine was seized. But after a little work and a couple new parts I was driving it around town. If you don't mind saying, what is the asking price? Do you have any picture to post up? We will be better able to say whether it's a deal or not.

One also has to consider the reputation of the seller. There are unscrupulous folks who can disguise some pretty awful problems so that they are invisible to all but the most savvy. This is why there are professional buyers and inspectors. If you are going to spend up to $17k on a dent and don't feel very confident about being able to see through clever deceptions in this specific area, get some professional help. Caveat emptor.

I didn't bother to take any pics. It was out in front of a restaurant, I walked in, found the owner and asked if he wanted to sell it. He said perhaps. He was sitting with someone I knew, which probably helped vet my offer to buy. I went out to give it the once over and it was all I expected it to be (visibly). He came over after eating and said 12K firm. I told him call me this week. Turns out this guy is quite the gearhead, surprised I didn't know him. I just need to do the mechanical check (doesn't matter much because I'll buy it anyway) so if the deal comes through, I'll post up some pictures.

Thank you for your input.

Agreed. I'd like to think I have the skills to evaluate it properly, it's just the market I was unsure of.
