I understand there are other places to learn, but I kinda like the people on this forum so here I am. I have a 08 Montana 342PHT rear bunkhouse, are the interior walls supporting ceiling in anyway or can they be removed?

 

I don't have an 08 Montana brochure but the 07 & 09 both show galvanized steel rafters supporting the roof. I would therefore assume that interior walls are generally non-supporting. They could contain plumbing and wiring runs though if you want to remove them.

 

Your best bet for an answer would be in the 5th wheel towing section at the link below.

I'm not in any way an engineer but looking at my Montana Mountaineer I would say that none of the interior deviders, won't call them walls are not load bearing. As said by Players, the roof is supported by the steel rafters.

I would however take a look at the Montana website and look where they show the 5th wheel construction cutaway picture. That may give you a little more insight as to your question.

Obviously you could call the factory but that would be a crap shoot as to them even answering the phone or getting anyone knowledgeable enough to give you an answer. A call to a local rv repair shop would most likely get the info you need. Good luck with your rebuild.

What are you thinking...open up the rear to make the space more usable? I'm looking at an 2008 332PHT with the same thoughts.

 

Go to YouTube and watch some videos on rubber roof replacement on a travel trailer or a 5th wheel. This will show you how the trailer roofs are attached and supported. most have "arch" supports for the roof that supports the plywood and rubber membrane material.

This will show you that most any interior wall can be removed without a problem. There might be videos of removing interior walls.
